Researchers discover dentin internal structure
An interdisciplinary team of scientists from Julius Wolff Institute atCharité in Berlin, analyzed the dentin structure and found that its mineral particles are pre-compressed and act as a prevention cracks of bio-structure.
According to scientists, these fibers are located in all teeth and are formed by layers, which make the teeth stiffer and resistant to damage. This finding may explain why the replacements for artificial teeth usually do not work as well as healthy teeth, and create new restorative materials possibilities in dentistry. This is because the artificial are devoid of mechanisms found in the natural teeth structures.
The study was published in Nano Letters.
